Chilliwack Crawl-Space Furnace, AC and Tankless Water Heater Retrofit

Outdoor air-conditioning unit documented during a Chilliwack residential retrofit

Project overview

Tek Climate completed a complex residential retrofit in Chilliwack, BC combining a Lennox furnace, Lennox air conditioning, a Navien tankless water heater and ductwork changes. The project included relocating the furnace into a crawl space, along with related air-conditioning, water-heating and ductwork work.

The verified ServiceTitan record documents a Lennox ML196UH045XE36B furnace, Lennox 13ACXN024-230 air conditioner, CHX35-24B-6F-1 coil and Navien NPE240A tankless water heater.

Why this was more than an equipment swap

The furnace was relocated into the crawl space and mounted horizontally. The project also called for a horizontal coil, new vent routing to the side of the house, condensate management and replacement of the AC refrigerant line set.

The recorded scope also included work on a Navien tankless water heater, with water-line routing, gas piping and separate venting requirements.

Furnace and venting work

The installation notes specify sidewall venting through the crawl space. The plan also called for the vent termination to be raised above grade to account for snow level. The exact field configuration is not inferred beyond the written scope.

Air-conditioning work

The existing AC was removed and reinstalled as part of the retrofit scope, with replacement of the refrigerant line set and a new outdoor equipment pad.

Return-air changes

The homeowner also requested changes to two return-air locations: one at the kitchen wall and another in the hallway. That made the job partly a duct-distribution project rather than only an equipment replacement.

Tankless-water-heater work

The documented Navien NPE240A scope included water-line, drainage, gas and venting work. The published project photos show the outdoor air conditioner and exterior vent terminals; they do not establish the tankless unit’s final indoor location.

FAQ

Can a furnace be installed horizontally in a crawl space?

Some furnaces and coils are designed for horizontal configurations. This project used a horizontal crawl-space installation, with the equipment selection and layout documented in the job scope.

Can a tankless water heater be relocated during an HVAC retrofit?

It can be possible when the equipment’s installation requirements and the property’s gas, water, drainage and venting arrangements allow it. This project’s recorded scope included work on a Navien NPE240A; its final indoor location is not shown in the published photos.

Why replace the refrigerant line set during an AC retrofit?

The verified project scope specifically called for line-set replacement. The reason is not stated in the record, so this case study does not invent one.
