Vancouver Mitsubishi Zuba Heat Pump Conversion: Gas Furnace to Full Electric

Project overview

Tek Climate completed a residential heating-system conversion in Vancouver, BC, removing an existing gas furnace and replacing it with a Mitsubishi Zuba heat pump and air handler system.

The ServiceTitan project record confirms the conversion scope, indoor air-handler installation, outdoor heat-pump placement, new thermostat wiring, refrigerant piping and condensate drainage. Customer identity, exact address, price and private project details are intentionally excluded.

The conversion challenge

Changing from a gas furnace to a ducted heat-pump system is more involved than replacing one box with another. The furnace had to be removed, a new air handler fitted into the existing mechanical space, refrigerant piping routed from indoors to the outdoor heat pump, condensate drainage connected, and new control wiring installed.

The project notes also confirm that the line set was routed between joists to reach the outdoor unit on the side of the house.

Why an air handler replaces the furnace

In a full-electric ducted heat-pump conversion, the air handler becomes the indoor unit that moves heated or cooled air through the existing ductwork. On this Vancouver project, the original gas furnace was removed and replaced with the Mitsubishi indoor air-handling equipment.

Controls and drainage

The scope included new thermostat wiring and a Mitsubishi thermostat. Condensate from the indoor equipment was directed to an existing floor drain.

What the record does not claim

The verified record identifies the system as Mitsubishi Zuba but does not provide a publishable equipment model number, load calculation, measured energy savings or homeowner testimonial. Those details are therefore not invented here.

FAQ

Can a gas furnace be replaced with a Mitsubishi Zuba heat pump?

Yes. This Vancouver project involved removing the gas furnace and installing a Mitsubishi Zuba heat pump and air handler.

Can the existing ductwork still be used?

In a ducted conversion, an air handler can connect to the home’s existing duct system when the ductwork and project design allow it. This project used an air handler in place of the furnace.

Does a heat-pump conversion require new thermostat wiring?

This project did. The verified scope included new thermostat wire and a Mitsubishi thermostat.
